Today thousands of people worldwide take part in creating environmental awareness and in celebration of World Environment Day (WED).
This year’s WED is being hosted by Mongolia and the festivities focus on the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and UN Food and Agricultural Organization’s (FAO) campaign ‘Think.Eat.Save.’
The campaign addresses the massive annual wastage and losses in food, which, if conserved will reduce the overall carbon footprint. The campaign aims to bring about awareness in countries with lifestyles resulting in food wastage and to empower people to make informed choices about the food they eat.
Past World Environment Day thematic celebrations included caring for the forests, green economy, the ozone layer, and sustainable development.
