MILE in partnership with the Human Resource Department at eThekwini Municipality, hosted its fifth Management Seminar with over 80 municipal managers, who were captivated by an energetic and charismatic presentation by internationally acclaimed author and speaker, Dr Graeme Codrington.
The seminar focussed on the need to acknowledge the different types of people in the work place and to understand that people from different age groups and generations think and act differently.
“If we want to be good leaders we cannot lead the way we want to be led. As South Africans we need to lead like how other people want to be led. We must try to understand each other’s value systems and understand what it looks like from other people’s eyes,” said Codrington.
Nonhle Zulu a HR Trainee said, “I really enjoyed the presentation by Graeme. It was a great way of understanding the different values held dear by each generation. The practicality of it allowed me to see things differently and to learn how we can relate to each other although we have differences.”
The Deputy Head of Cooperative HR, Pam Matthias shared the same sentiments. She said, “This seminar forms an excellent platform to communicate and share ideas and also to look at ways to put it into action.”
The learning note for this event will be available soon. The presentation slides will also be made available here, so watch this space!
